A (very) brief guide to Durham political blogs

October 19th, 2007 by Mr. Dependable · 5 Comments

Or at least some bloggers who are talking about the upcoming municipal elections. These are generally good sites to discuss the candidates, and to get the word out about the good Democrats who are running this year. This isn’t intended to be a complete list, so if i’ve left someone off, there’s no slight intended. Either post a comment with the link or shoot me an email (bragin AT nc DOT rr DOT com) and i’ll update the post

The News and Observer’s Bull’s Eye blog covers events around Durham, including the upcoming election.

Kevin Davis writes about all things Durham, including politics and development issues, with a keen analytical eye at Bull City Rising.

Michael Bacon’s The Bull in Full is also focusing on the election this season. He’s done a great piece in the recent past on untangling the Durham Loop and improving transportation downtown.

Breaking the pattern of blogs starting with “Bull,” Carl Kenney has begun a new blog, Rev-Elution, and is talking about the election, among other things.

I also write about local politics regularly here.

On the right, the JLF’s Right Angles blog claims to be about the Triangle, but of the most recent ten posts, only two have any passing mention of the Triangle, and only one is really about any part of the Triangle, so i won’t link to that.

There’s a link to BlueNC in the sidebar. That’s a statewide blog for progressives and Democrats that is not, to my knowledge, affiliated with the Party. But there’s a lot of good stuff there, and you should check it out when you can. Ditto for Stephen Gheen’s Political Junkies site, which is more national in scope.

Got any more links to discussions on Durham politics? Post ‘em in the comments or drop me a line and i’ll update.

Thanks for the breakdown of the Durham political blog scene.

Lefty Blogs usually has a good roundup of statewide progressive blog postings. Check out North Carolina’s section at http://www.leftyblogs.com/northcarolina/. BlogNetNews North Carolina at http://www.blognetnews.com/North_Carolina/ also has statewide blog links.

Pam Spaulding was one of the first political bloggers in Durham, if not the very first.  Pam’s House Blend now has a national following.

Mayoral candidate Paul Scott has some very pointed political commentary on his blog No Warning Shots Fired.  He gets extra double-bonus points for calling himself the “Hip Hop Howard Beale,” since Network is one of my favorite all-time movies, and practically nobody even remembers it anymore.  It’s still relevant 30-plus years later!

Mostly, I keep waiting for QueenBee to start buzzing again…….

Pam’s blog was certainly inspirational for me. I just haven’t seen her talk about the upcoming Durham elections yet.

    Thanks for the mention!

BlueNC is most definitely not associated in any way with the North Carolina Democratic Party.

There was one column on PHB about the local election. I’m sure she will weigh in again.
