Meet Thomas Stith, Right-wing Republican

October 21st, 2007 by kmf · 5 Comments

Durham, meet Thomas $tith, right-wing Republican, as he waxes nostalgic for the Reagan years. Of course, this is a non-partisan election, so we don’t want to talk about that partisan stuff, right? After all, Thomas $tith is running on a platform of “change”–innocuous enough. What sort of change, pray tell? Let’s take a look at some of Thomas’s friends. Here’s the guest list for the event Thomas is talking about in the video, a fun little gathering called “The Conservative Leadership Conference“:
Patrick McHenry
Grover Norquist
Newt Gingrich
Elizabeth Dole
Rudy Giuliani
Richard Viguerie
With friends like that, it’s no wonder Thomas $tith wants to make this a non-partisan election. He is, after all, a good little puppet.

He is also a good little puppet who looks just like a Muppet.

    Seriously.

He kind of moves and talks like one, too.

Can you imagine having him as a spokesperson for Durham during the 2008 election?

That thought alone keeps me up at night. (Like now.)

Don’t miss these articles about Stith from “The Independent”:

A little back story on this video: right before the interview John Hood double dog dared him to say the word “conservative” 50 times in 60 sixty seconds.

$tith continues to fuss about the cost overruns on the downtown streetscape. Two points:

    1) Guess who made the motion to approve the cost increases? You guessed it: $tith. Source: City Council minutes, January 2, 2007. Any mention of his complaining before he made the motion and voted “yes”? Of course not. He had to wait for Art Pope and Jack Hawke to tell him to make this a campaign issue months later.

    2) The cost overruns were related to finding structural problems in the streets once they were dug up. Better to fix stuff like that when you’re down there than waiting later for real problems. If you’re painting the walls at your house and you find some dry rot, do you paint over it -OR- spend the extra to fix the rot? Of course, you fix the rot. $tith understood that when he supported this extra work and ch0se to ignore it after the Locke/Civitas boys got to him—or he was asleep at the switch.

But he sure takes credit for the good things happening downtown. Stop running against the status quo, $tith. You ARE the status quo.

Video of Stith and Bell commenting last night at the Duke debate on the dirty nature of the campaign. I think Bell shows some strength here:

(sorry for poor video and sound quality)
