It is absolutely unacceptable to force students to take a military recruiting exam. We don't force students to take the SAT and other College entrance exams, so why should we force them to take military entrance exams? We should not waste an entire day of learning for military exams that should be volunteer. High schools do not offer the SAT in the middle of the school days to my knowledge, so it seems to me this school is saying the military option is more important than going to college.

Do you mean Cedar Ridge High?

I think it's reprehensible to force students to take the ASVAB. But at the same time, if those three students refused to take it, what do you do? You can't send them home, you can't leave them in the classroom while other studenst are testing. Perhaps they could have been sent to the library or the cafeteris or something. I'm not convinced that they were sent to ISS as punishment. Regardless, the test should have been optional.

This was a great meeting. There were over 125 people there, and a real spirit of "Yes, we can!" There are lots of volunteer opportunities, and lots of folks to help you get involved.

If you missed it, you can connect to the group via this link:

Gee, it might be nice to have a big huge wide selection, but I have to say that I am truly thankful to be making the tough decision betweeen Obama and Hillary. Don't you remember? Not so long ago we were choosing between the lesser of two evils. Maybe hoping some guy without much personality would be good enough to win.
This year we have two bona-fide contenders to pick from! Yippee! And, if we choose the right (er, correct) one, we might have a chance against a fractured Republican party. If we choose the wrong one, we may inadvertently solidify the Republican party in opposition to us.

That means that Rove, Rush, or whomever has the switch, activates that little microchip embedded in the cerebral cortex of each registered Republican. Before long, they will be in lock step spouting tag lines in unison.

That little microchip has me thinking that Obama is the best choice. Hillary is far too polarizing and I am tired of having to hate all Republicans the way I do. The country needs to do some healing and I fear that will not happen if we elect another polarizing and divisive president.

I don't consider myself undecided. I am uncommitted to any particular candidacy.

My decision is to support whichever candidate earns the nomination of the Democratic Party.

I do wish that more choices were available to more voters. Each of the candidates (well, maybe not Joe Biden) brought something to the table that needed to be part of the campaign. We, the party and the electorate as a whole, lose something when those issues and passions are filtered out of the debate at such an early stage.

You can read an interview with Kucinich in which Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! gives him a chance to answer the questions posed to the other three candidates at Tuesday night's debate. The URL is http://www.democracynow.org/2008/1/16/breaking_the_sound_barrier_democracy_now

On Tuesday evening, the Nevada Supreme Court reversed the District Court judge's decision and allowed MSNBC to air the debate without Kucinich. Since the debate was co-sponsored by the Nevada Democratic Party, I think some emails are in order to reprimand them for not standing up and supporting all Democratic candidates. Just my two cents, but I don't think a state party should sit idly by while other Democrats are excluded from participation.

Senior Clark County District Court Judge Charles Thompson in Nevada on Monday ordered MSNBC to include Rep. Dennis Kucinich in Tuesday's Democratic Party presidential debate in Las Vegas or he will cancel the forum.

Judge Thompson vowed to issue an injunction halting the nationally televised debate if MSNBC failed to comply. He ruled it was a matter of fairness and Nevada voters would benefit from hearing from more than just Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama.

Unbelievably, NBC News said Monday it will appeal a judge's ruling rather than include Kucinich in the Nevada debate.

"We disagree with the judge's decision and are filing an appeal," said a statement provided by Jeremy Gaines, a vice president for MSNBC, sponsor of Tuesday night's debate. Gaines said the parent network would seek an immediate hearing before the Nevada Supreme Court.

Personally, if it weren't for Keith Olbermann, I'd never watch MSNBC again after this debacle.
